What is Clopidogrel ( Plavix 75 mg )?
Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent. The active metabolite of clopidogrel selectively inhibits the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its platelet P2Y12 receptor and the subsequent ADP mediated activation of the glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex, thereby inhibiting platelet aggregation. This action is irreversible.
It is available as 75 mg tablets.
Clopidogrel is used to prevent heart attacks and strokes in persons with heart disease (recent heart attack), recent stroke, or blood circulation disease (peripheral vascular disease). It is also used with aspirin to treat new/worsening chest pain (new heart attack, unstable angina) and to keep blood vessels open and prevent blood clots after certain procedures (such as cardiac stent).
The usual dosage of Clopidogrel
Recent MI, Recent Stroke, or Established Peripheral Arterial Disease: PO 75 mg once daily with or without food. Acute Coronary Syndrome (Unstable Angina/NonQWave MI): ADULTS: PO Start with a 300 mg loading dose, then continue at 75 mg once daily, initiating and continuing aspirin (75 to 325 mg/day) in combination with clopidogrel.

El clopidogrel es un agente antiplaquetario (del tipo tienopiridina) administrado por vía oral, que inhibe la formación de coágulos en la enfermedad arterial coronaria, enfermedad vascular periférica, y enfermedad cerebrovascular. Actúa mediante la inhibición irreversible de un receptor llamado P2Y12, un quimioreceptor de ADP.
El clopidogrel está indicado en:
Prevención de eventos isquémicos en pacientes con arteriosclerosis sintomática.
Síndrome coronario agudo, con o sin elevación del ST.
También se utiliza en combinación con el ácido acetilsalicílico (aspirina), para la prevención de la trombosis después de la colocación del stent coronario o como un antiplaquetario alternativo para los pacientes que no toleran el ácido acetil salicílico (aspirina).
