Do You Really Need a Postdoctoral Fellowship?

In this episode of Navigating Academia, I talk about a topic I get asked about all the time which is whether you really need to complete a postdoctoral fellowship before applying for your first job in academia. https://www.jayphoenixsingh.com
Should you or do you even have to complete a postdoctoral fellowship before beginning your academic career as whatever the lowest level professorship is in your country. I faced this exact question when I had to make the decision after I finished my first doctoral at Oxford. Should I just apply for assistant professor positions or should I take a postdoc?
My quick answer is it’s not 100% necessary but there are a variety of reasons why completing a postdoc fellowship can be one of the most valuable experiences in your entire academic career.
