BAE Systems’ Aircrew adviser and Eurofighter Typhoon pilot, Paul Smith demonstrated the aircraft capabilities using a simulator at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2017.
The simulator is an exact replica of the Typhoon’s cockpit, includes a Head Up Display (the demonstration of the visor is in the next video), Gseat acceleration effects, full avionics and sensor suit suitable for training purposes.
The synthetic visualizing system project images of the external scenario along with the ambience on a spherical dome with highresolution projectors and target projectors assuring a wide vision range to the pilot.
Smith demonstrates hitting targets using airtoair missiles, Meteor, heat seeking missiles, and airtosurface missiles, ‘Brimstone’. Smith also demonstrates the Helmet display.
The Head Equipment Assembly (HEA), developed by BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems, comprises the aircrew helmet and all the subsystem elements needed to display a real world overlaid picture on the helmet visor.
Outside the Exhibitions hall there was a full scale replica of Typhoon on display.
BAE Systems, earlier today announced that Esterline will deliver two visual systems in the Eurofighter Typhoon simulator facilities at RAF Lossiemouth, in Scotland, UK, by the end of this year.

Saab JAS 39 Gripen (Griffin, hay Gryphon) là loại máy bay chiến đấu hạng nhẹ một động cơ, do công ty Saab phối hợp với Ericson và Volvo Thụy Điển phát triển để thay thế các loại máy bay Saab 35 Draken và 37 Viggen của Không quân Thụy Điển thay vì mua biến thể F16, F/A18A/B, hay phiên bản \”F5S\” của Northrop F20 Tigershark. Saab lựa chọn thiết kế cánh mũi không ổn định, tạo lực cản thấp, cho phép máy bay bay nhanh hơn, tầm hoạt động rộng hơn và mang tải trọng lớn hơn. Royal Thai Air Force’s Saab JAS-39 Gripen C Rips Through the Skies Over Singapore – AINtv
The Royal Thai Air Force originally selected the Swedish Saab JAS39 Gripen C/D in 2007 to replace its elderly Northrop F5 fighter fleet. The air force currently has 11 of the aircraft, and is appearing in the Singapore Airshow flying display for the first time.
The advantage of the Gripen C/D models is that they offer strong competition against cheapertoacquire secondhand fighters such as Lockheed Martin F16s and surplus Tranche 1 Eurofighter Typhoons.
The Mach 2 capable Gripen C/D is powered by a Volvo RM12 delivering 12,100 pounds of thrust or 18,100 pounds with afterburner.
