Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant. It is initially developed as a gamma aminobutyric acid agonist. However, it does not act at GABA receptors, enhance GABA actions or convert to GABA. Its precise mechanism of action is not known.
Gabapentin is used as an adjunctive therapy in treatment of partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in patients above 12 yr with epilepsy; adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in children 3 to 12 yr; management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults.
It is available as 100 mg; 300 mg; 400 mg; 600 mg tablets.

I woke up paralyzed after taking gabapentin for three days. The ER doctor didn't believe me. A few months later I was talking to a doctor who had the same thing happen to her.
I have a disc issue in my neck which was causing severe pain in my left arm, especially at night. I would be up much of the night in agony. I was briefly prescribed hydrocodone, which didn't really help much. Doctor then prescribed gabapentin. Total game changer. I take 600 every night, and have for over a year, and while I still have some pain sometimes, I am not in agony anymore and am able to sleep well.

I have constant, involuntary muscle twitching all over my body – mostly my legs and especially my feet. I’ve seen several videos on YouTube that show exactly what I’m dealing with, and it looks just like benign fasciculation syndrome. I saw a neurologist and he couldn’t figure out what was wrong. He ruled out ALS. He prescribed Neurontin to treat the issue, and it hasn’t really improved. Very disappointing. If you see this comment , doctor – any ideas? Any other medications available to treat fasciculations besides neurontin?

I have fibromyalgia, RA, osteoarthritis, DDD & a few other nerve issues from all that. Gabapentin made me feel drunk/hungover however the time release type worked so well with very little side effects for my nerve pain, I could un-painfully receive hugs & be touched!! However, not fda approved for my condition so I was taken off of it ?
Was on pain meds for 16 years and ran a business the whole time. The government and all its wisdom took my life back away from me. Lost my business, my equipment, my truck. Phuck the govt lawmakers. Im not going to do as they wish. They should do as I wish. They should work for me. Thats the whole idea. Most of our law makers, I wouldn't trust with a toy. They would only look for a way to make money from it or they would break it. 60% of them are criminals. Dont take that crap. They make opioids for a reason, but its ok to get drunk. Thats the crap that should be illegal.
Neurontin is the worst crap you can take. Thats some nasty stuff.

Gabapetin like and drug will work differently with your symptoms and body chemistry. Just like the current vaccination. Some will have a reaction that is based on their interaction to the chemistry. Any medication prescribed considers side affects but is given because the benefit out ways the negative….if you even experience any at all.

I take this medication at night cause it knocks me out. I take it due to nerve damage on my arm.
Doc put me on gabapentin and it sent me in to fits of rage. I hate it.

This med has helped treat sharp nerve pain, restless leg syndrome, Bell's Palsy ex… It's been a life saver!!! Been on it for many years. No side effects at all, thank goodness!! My mother on the other hand was given it for back pain, yeah it did absolutely nothing for her!! She also took 3 months worth in less than two months trying to get it to work ?!!! Lol yeah her doc took her off it!!

This Medicine has no MEDICAL VALUE.
I spent 10 years with throat spasms that would mimic heart attacks. Gabapentin saved my life with lower dosage three times a day. I would have ended my own life, had a knowledgeable doctor not stepped up and put me on it. It's even helped with other neuropathy issues I was having. Gabapentin did exactly what I needed it to do, with no noticeable side affects.

You are better off taking a nerve aid type supplement it’s natural and works better then gabapentin. I took gabapentin for about six months never helped with pain and gave the shakes to the point I could hardly sign my name. I broke my back and got a spinal cord injury the gabapentin slowed my recovery process. After weaning off the drug I noticed huge improvement to the point of moving my legs again. I think the gabapentin slows nerve regeneration by not helping your brain make new connections. The pins and needles and the burning is your nerves trying like hell to get the nutrients needed to recover.
Why isn’t there med reviews via male vs female side effects, doctors just gave me this for nerve pain didn’t tell me any of thisss I don’t think I should take this either oof
I have chronic back pain and take a number of pain medications. Morphine, gabapentin, norflex, codeine and paracetamol. After 4 back operations and all these dam meds it's not easy and I can honestly say that the pain is still there. I spoke to my doctor and told him that this medication is not doing anything and I wanted to decrease it. So now I'm off the morphine now for about a month and the pain is still the same. Might as well start to reduce the whole lot and get these dam pills out of my system as they dont work and I might as well live with the pain
I took this for one week. By the end Of that week my feet were so swollen my tennis shoes were tight. I did some research and found a lot of people had this problem. Needless to say I never took it again.
That worst part is it actually was helping my chronic muscles spasms and pain.
Thank you for this helpful information. I did not do well with this drug. Vet prescribed for my dog for fear of thunderstorms and fireworks…scared me cause he was so out I thought he was dead. Not using it again on my dog either.. Thank you.
I have neuropathy from chemo. My dr put me on Gabbapentin to treat it, bad idea. Made symptoms worse, instead of feeling like I was walking on rocks, I felt like I had rocks in my boots. Fingers went totally numb. Worse was the diarrhea, I couldn’t leave the house. Told dr and he said quit taking it. Much better now, still have numbness but I can deal with it.

I Don't care who says what when it comes to people getting addicted and taking too much. My opinion and experience, take what your Doctor ordered and NO MORE than that. Maybe less, but NOT more. If you take MORE, then anything harmful or bad that happens is YOUR Fault. PERIOD!
I started taking Gabapentin a year ago, 300 mg once a day. Nothing happen, I expected some pain Relief from my crippling arthritis. Told my doctor after 4 months, but kept taking it. She said take 3 pills per day. GOSH what a difference. 300 mg each, 3 pills per day works for me. I even sleep Better with less or No pain waking me up all night long. I see a few people said they had bad dreams. Dreams sure, but just silly, not bad dreams for me. I'm certainly NOT one to Abuse the Dosage. NOT me, very careful of what I take and how much. Been like that for my whole life, 60 plus years. TOO much of anything can be harmful, even too much of drinking water. Just keep to the 8 glasses at the MOST per day.
