New York Campaigns can be muddy and nasty. Once it’s over, life goes on, and it’s time to wish Haiti \”Good luck.\” Michel Martelly aka Sweet Micky is now Haiti’s presidentelect even though his opponent Mirlande Manigat has until April 16 to contest the result as prescribes the Haitian Constitution, article 178. Congratulations to Michel Martelly (56th President of Haiti) and his staff for running a good campaign, even though Martelly never revealed the source that financed his spectacular campaign.\r
\r
No fighting. Campaigning is over. Now it’s time to govern! Haiti does not need a civil war right now. Haiti needs reconstruction, peace and progress. The donors that have pledged over 11 billion dollars for Haiti’s reconstruction do not have any excuse now to start disbursing the money through the proper channel once Michel Martelly is installed as the president of the Republic of Haiti. There are over a million people living in tents.\r

There can not be two presidents at a time. If supporters on both sides were collecting machetes to start a civil war, now they can use those same machetes for cultivation of Haiti’s soil, which can produce amazing agricultural products to feed the population.\r

For Michel Martelly, himself, it’s a personal victory. Redeeming himself and ascend to becoming the first citizen of the nation is not an easy task. Now he has to learn that in a democracy there is always opposition. Some International observers never stop questioning an election where the major political party was excluded. The Executive branch alone does not call all the shots. Martelly must deal with the Legislative and Judicial branches. It is not going to be a sailthrough for Michel Martelly, a novice in politics.\r

Congratulations Sweet Micky, oops! Michel Martelly. Now it is time for Martelly to Show the world that Michel Martelly is not Sweet Micky and he does not resort to his old obscene life style. And above all let us hope that he respects freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of expression. Michel Martelly has a lot to prove. The ball is in his court now.\r
