‘Anaesthesia, Surgery and LifeThreatening Anaphylaxis’, the report and findings of the 6th National Audit Project (NAP6): Perioperative Anaphylaxis, was launched at the Royal Society of Medicine on 14 May 2018.
The RCoA National Audit Projects study anaesthesiarelated complications of low incidence that are potentially serious for patients and important to patients and anaesthetists. NAP6 studied the topic of perioperative anaphylaxis, a lifethreatening drug reaction that happens suddenly, without warning and can affect anyone.
This study is the culmination of almost four years’ work by a large number of multidisciplinary contributors, including specialist anaesthetists, allergists, immunologists, patients and allergy charities, and is endorsed by all four Chief Medical Officers of the UK. NAP6 is the first National Audit Project to engage with the independent healthcare sector.

Anticholinergic drugs are medications that block the effects of neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous system. Neuromuscular blocking agents are medications that antagonize nicotinic cholinergic receptors on skeletal muscle to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide muscle relaxation during surgery. This pharmacology lecture covers topics such as mechanism of action of cholinergic antagonists; antimuscarinic agents, ganglionic blockers, neuromuscular nondepolarizing \u0026 depolarizing agents, phase 1 and phase 2 block, anticholinergic side effects. Anticholinergic drugs mentioned include; Atropine, Cyclopentolate, Tropicamide, Scopolamine, Ipratropium, Tiotropium, Tolterodine, Darifenacin, Solifenacin, Oxybutynin, Trospium, Fesoterodine, Benztropine, Trihexyphenidyl, Nicotine, Cisatracurium, Pancuronium, Rocuronium, Vecuronium, Atracurium, Succinylcholine.
