ใจสั่นแบบ AF (atrial fibrillation) เป็นโรค ใจสั่น ที่พบมากใน ผู้สูงอายุ โดย ผู้ป่วยมักจะมีอาการ หัวใจเต้นไม่เป็นจังหวะ ชนิดที่ไม่สม่ำเสมอเลย(total irregularity) โดยที่อัตราการเต้น อาจจะช้าหรือเร็วก็ได้ แต่ส่วนใหญ่ จะอยู่ในช่วง 100130ครั้ง/นาที ความสำคัญของ โรคนี้ นอกจากจะก่อให้เกิด อาการ หายใจไม่อิ่ม เหนื่อยง่าย หรือ แน่นอก ขณะที่เกิดภาวะใจสั่น AF นี้แล้ว ผู้ป่วย โดยเฉพาะ ผู้สูงอายุ หรือ ผู้ป่วยที่มีโรคหัวใจ ไม่ว่า จะเป็น โรคลิ้นหัวใจ หรือ โรคกล้ามเนื้อหัวใจอ่อนแรง จะมี ความเสี่ยงที่จะเกิด อัมพาต อันเกิดจากการอุดตันของหลอดเลือดในสมอง หรือ เกิดภาวะ น้ำท่วมปอด ได้
