What is atorvastatin?
Atorvastatin belongs to a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or “statins.”
Atorvastatin is used together with diet to lower blood levels of “bad” cholesterol (lowdensity lipoprotein, or LDL), to increase levels of “good” cholesterol (highdensity lipoprotein, or HDL), and to lower triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood).
Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol, and to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in people with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors.
Atorvastatin is used in adults and children who are at least 10 years old
You should not use atorvastatin if you are •allergic to it,
• if you have liver disease;
•if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Atorvastatin can harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects.
• Do not use if you are pregnant. Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
Atorvastatin may pass into breast milk and could harm a nursing baby.
•Do not breastfeed while you are taking this medicine.
To make sure this medicine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
liver problems;
muscle pain or weakness;
kidney disease;
diabetes;
a thyroid disorder; or
if you drink more than 2 alcoholic beverages daily.
★How should take atorvastatin
Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Atorvastatin is usually taken once a day, with or without food. Take the medicine at the same time each day.
Do not break a tablet before taking it.
You may need to stop using this medicine for a short time if you have:
uncontrolled seizures;
an electrolyte imbalance
severely low blood pressure;
a severe infection or illness;
surgery or a medical emergency.
It may take up to 2 weeks before your cholesterol levels improve, and you may need regular blood tests. You may not notice any change in your symptoms, but keep using the medication as directed. Your blood work will help your doctor determine how long to treat you with atorvastatin. You may need to take atorvastatin for a long time or for life depending on your medical history.
Atorvastatin is only part of a complete treatment program that may also include diet, exercise, and weight control.
Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
★Atorvastatin side effects
• an allergic reaction to atorvastatin: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
In rare cases, atorvastatin can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, potentially leading to kidney failure.
•unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have fever, •unusual tiredness, and dark colored urine.
•pain or burning when you urinate;
•liver problems upper stomach pain, weakness, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
•kidney problems little or no urinating, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath.
•Common atorvastatin side effects may include:
joint pain;
stuffy nose, sore throat;
diarrhea; or
pain in your arms or legs.
★What other drugs will affect atorvastatin?
Certain other drugs can increase your risk of serious muscle problems, and it is very important that your doctor knows if you are using any of them. Tell about all your current medicines and any you start or stop using, especially:
•antibiotic or antifungal medicine;
•birth control pills;
•other cholesterollowering medications;
•heart medication; or
•medicine to treat HIV or AIDS.

ATORVASTATIN USES:
Atorvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower “bad” cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as “statins.” It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides and raising “good” cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.
In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a lowcholesterol/lowfat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. Consult your doctor for more details.

My side effects below- the makers & prescribers need to compensate every one on this drug. The ones who knowingly, and falsely advertised, & prescribed it as an experiment. I believe It's an experimental drug. Those who fight hard against what I'm experiencing and still experiencing seems guilty .God will judge and deal with money lovers hurting & killing his creations .
I can use the money to pay all my doctor Bills. How about a powered wheelchair indoor/ outdoor too please?
My story-
The only meds that I take on a daily basis is B12 and iron. No OTC.
Started statin JUNE 2019. On JULY 2019, thirty days after taking atorvastatin, it caused cellulitis & soft tissue injury in left leg , ankle, & foot.
Today is Feb 22, 2020. I continue to have ongoing pain & swelling. Can not put weight on left leg & foot without swelling returning & pain is constant
Eventually after starting statin, I began having trouble in shoulders, arms, wrists, fingers, hips, knees, & back
Have problems when rising from a lying & seated position, when sitting down, bending, lifting, reaching, & more after taking atorvastatin. Also have vision problems.
I've gone to several doctors, had blood work, MRI's w/o contast, xrays, ultrasound, and no one can tell me what's wrong with me.
nor does the MRI show any swelling of my leg, ankle, and foot but the swelling is very visible. My foot looks deformed, and my left leg has become smaller than the rt.(muscle wasting/atrophy)
I haven't injured it at all . I do have ROM. Putting weight on it is the problem
ortho doc says tendonitis, put me in a boot & on bed rest, for how long, who knows. This has been on going since July 2019
My doctor wont admit to what this drug has done but she says she'll pray for me
I believe the Word of God, if someone is hungry, don't give me prayer when you have food. JAMES 2.16
She has the answers because the side effects are displayed in me & she refuses to admit this. I want to make the makers of atorvastatin responsible but instead she offers prayer . That's not geniune in my book.
All the side of effects from so many people surely says this company knows what they are doing. Profiting
I sincerely ask and pray to God Almighty in heaven that He heals each and every one of you, including me. I believe and have seen Him heal my girls and others.
